Do I Need Planning Permission?
Use this tool to receive early, non-binding guidance on whether your proposal
is likely to be permitted development.
Used to identify the local planning authority.
This option applies to works entirely inside the property, with no external changes.
Common examples include:
Changing internal room layouts (for example, moving or removing internal walls)
Kitchen or bathroom refits
Internal loft conversions with no dormers, roof lights or roof changes
Garage conversions where the external appearance stays the same
If your proposal involves any external change (including windows, doors, roof alterations or extensions),
choose "External alterations to the house" instead.
This option applies when the main use of a building or part of a building is changing.
Common examples include:
Changing a garage or outbuilding into a separate office or business use
Converting a shop or office into residential use
Using part of a home for commercial or business purposes
Short-term holiday or serviced accommodation
Changes of use do not normally benefit from permitted development rights and usually require planning permission.
No further details are required because the outcome is already determined under Scottish permitted development rules.
